The Heidelberg Catechism and its potential for the future\u201c, in: <em>Remembering the Heidelberg Catechism in Southern Africa Today: Essays on the occasion of the 450<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of a Reformed Confession, Acta Theologica<\/em> 2014, Suppl. 20, 280-292.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;width:100%;\"><div class=\"fusion-separator-border sep-single sep-dashed\" style=\"--awb-height:20px;--awb-amount:20px;border-color:#e0dede;border-top-width:1px;\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p class=\"p1\"><em>Abstract:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The article helps to understand the disturbing statement of the Heidelberg Catechism: \u201cI have a natural tendency to hate God and my neighbor.\u201d It unfolds the wide breadth of meaning of \u201chate\u201d and argues that the catechism offers a deep and realistic understanding of sin. Above all, however, the Heidelberger presents an\u00a0even richer meaning of \u201ccomfort\u201d, which can free from the bondage of hate and sin.
